The one-on-one therapy, do more pain free.

At Northern Physical Therapy, PC our staff is enthusiastic and committed to giving our patients the best care possible. We have a genuineinterest in helping patients become healthier and lead more productive lives. We make sure patients know what their physical ailment is and how we are going to help them recover. Our website features a Medical Library that we use to show a patient where the problem is located. It also has educational information for patients, so they can learn more about their injury and treatment techniques.

The more you know the more you can take control! We make sure every patient gets an Individualized Plan of Care and has a large part in designing it. Every patient has goals and things they want to be able to do and those goals, plus a few of our own, are what drives our therapists to excel in patient care. Taking care of our bodies is a 24/7 job, so each patient is also given an Individualized Home Exercise Program. Recovery is faster and more successful when patients know what to do when they are not in the clinic. It takes a partnership and committment to get results.

Life is complicated, but having help from knowledgeable and caring people makes it much easier. Northern Physical Therapy is committed to doing just that and our RESULTS prove it - 90% of our patients' state that they are greatly improved or improved. We call that SUCCESS! What's cold, white, heavy and can
cause you a lot of pain?

Yes, snow! It's coming and there is nothing we can do about it, but you can do something about preventing an injury while you cope with the piles of snow that will soon be coming our way.

Snow shoveling is a repetitive activity that can cause muscle strain to the lower back and shoulders. When it comes to shoveling snow, it's important to listen to your body and not overdo it. If you are out of condition, your body won't be prepared for the stress of shoveling snow and you increase your chances of sustaining back and shoulder injuries and strains. Even if you are in good shape, using proper technique is important.

Following these tips can help you stay
injury free this snow season!

  1. Get your body ready. Take a few minutes to stretch your back and shoulders and take a brisk walk, so you can get your muscles warmed up. Yeah, you may feel a little silly, but that is better than laying flat on your back in pain!
  2. Use a shovel with a long shaft. This will let you keep your back straight while lifting. You can also find an ergonomic shovel. Ergonomically correct shovels are typically much lighter than normal shovels and have a contoured handle that's designed to reduce or eliminate bending and decrease lifting. Remember, each shovelful of snow can weigh up to 20 pounds! Don't try to be Hercules!
  3. Use the proper shoveling technique. Lift small loads of snow, rather than heavy shovelfuls. Or you can push the snow instead of lifting it, and be sure not to overload the shovel. If you have to lift, bend your knees and lift with your legs (not your back), and avoid twisting or throwing snow over your shoulder. Think of Jane Fonda!
  4. Take frequent breaks. Stand up straight, walk around, and drink water to avoid dehydration and overheating. This may take you longer, but it keeps you out of the house during the long cold winter months!
  5. Make sure you listen to your body. Pay attention to your body's signals, such as pains, shortness of breath, or chest discomfort. Stop, if you feel any of these symptoms!
